It begins!
Welcome to the sneak preview of Desert Perks! Among other things, Desert Perks is a new online publication for the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley communities produced by me (Helen Holdun) and my oldest son, John Holdun.
This publication was conceived by John a few months ago. I love Palm Springs and readily agreed we needed something new, fresh and geared toward the residents who spend their lives, raise their families and live in this lovely city.
Of course he knows the Palm Springs local I admire most is Barry Manilow, so there had to be a section devoted to him. I had been working on an idea for a new blog focused on how Barry affects his fans’ lives and the pieces practically fell into place: my new Barry blog called It Could Be Magic is the first member of the Desert Perks network.
John also came up with the idea to launch ICBM and the Perks network on Barry’s birthday with messages from fans all over the world, ranging from heartfelt wishes to photos, videos and stories of how we celebrate his special day. Visit Barry’s Birthday Page and get a glimpse of what’s to come.
Right now our offerings are very modest, a true grass-roots operation built on John’s ideas and abilities and my enthusiasm. In the coming weeks, we’ll grow rapidly; bringing news and information about the diverse community of this wonderful little city along with some other, well…perks.
If you have ideas or suggestions about what you’d like to see here, please let us know—we’ll be looking for constant feedback via email at hello@desertperks.com or on Twitter at @desertperks. This is about all of you, and we can’t do it without your help and input.
We’re both very excited and we can hardly wait to show you what we have planned. Watch this space as we spend the summer revealing Desert Perks!
